Five Delta passengers injured after emergency evacuation in Lagos
At least five passengers were injured when an Atlanta-bound Delta Air Lines flight was forced to return to Lagos, Nigeria.
Flight 55 from Murtala Mohammed Internationl Airport in Lagos turned around shortly after take-off due to unspecified engine issues with the Airbus A330, making an emergency landing.
It landed safely but an emergency evacuation followed via emergency slides.
This is when injuries were caused.
Although not confirmed by the airline, local media cites an engine on fire.
Delta said five passengers reported non-serious injuries during the evacuation.
"Delta flight 55 to Atlanta returned to Lagos after an issue with one of the A330-200’s two engines. The safety of Delta’s customers and crew members is always our top priority," a Delta statement said.
"The flight landed safely and customers exited the aircraft on the runway via emergency slides."
All passengers were accommodated overnight and will return to the US departing on Wednesday.
