Five-star hotels for less than $100?
Prices for five-star hotels these days can be bargains, so much so that you can find them for under $100, according to Hotwire.
The company says it is “sharing “its Top 5-Star Hotel Destinations for users.
“This list features the top five cities in North America where you can find the best deals on 5-star hotels. The listing is based on the average price of searches and bookings made April 1-April 14 for mid-week stays the week of April 19-April 23,” the company says.
Las Vegas tops the list with average costs for 5-star hotels set at USD$109. it is followed by New Orleans (USD$119, average), Vancouver (USD$130), Portland USD($158) and San Diego (USD$192).
“Over 20,000 hotels have been working with Hotwire successfully for years. With the latest economic downturn, 5-star properties have experienced some of the lowest occupancy levels in the industry, and have needed to use all the resources available to them to fill unsold rooms, including discount sites like Hotwire,” said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. He added:
“What they’ve discovered is that with our opaque model, we can protect their retail prices while still providing a very effective way for them to move additional inventory at big price reductions.”
Hotwire saw 5-star room availability growth of 276 percent from 2008 to 2009. Bason expects that growth to continue this year.
