Five-year-old repels dingo in hotel room
A five-year-old girl has been hailed a hero after she stood in between her baby sister and a wild dingo dog that had found its way into their hotel bedroom.
According to The Times, Georgia Corke screamed at the wild dog as it stood just feet away from 14-week-old Scarlett at the Kingfisher Bay resort on Fraser Island, Queensland. The island has become synonymous with dingos in recent years, with several documented attacks on humans.
The girls’ mother Belinda is quoted as saying: “I heard my five-year-old starting to scream when I was in the bathroom but at first I thought she was messing about. Then I heard my husband shouting ‘dingo, dingo’.
“We ran into the bathroom expecting to see the dingo out on the road or nearby, but not in the hotel room, which it was. It was quite nasty – it stood its ground, too. My husband had to really stamp his feet and run at it to get it out of the room.”
The Queensland environment minister Dean Wells has reportedly warned that parents should not leave young children unattended and that visitors should stay in groups.
