Flight Centre chief retreats to wine country
BRISBANE – Flight Centre founder and managing director Graham Turner has brought his luxury accommodation business, Spicers Retreats, Hotels and Lodges, to the New South Wales wine country.
The Vineyards Estate in Pokolbin has been rebranded to Spicers Vineyards Estate, becoming the latest in the range of boutique properties to operate under the brand launched by Turner in June 2009.
The Hunter Valley property has been purchased by Turner in a joint venture with former Sydney restaurateurs Belinda Grant and Mark Stapleton who will manage the five star country escape.
The inaugural Spicers Retreats, Hotels and Lodges property, Spicers Clovelly Estate opened in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland near the village of Montville in June 2009.
The Sunshine Coast hinterland will be the setting for another Spicers property when Spicers Tamarind opens near Maleny in early 2010.
Others in the range include Spicers Balfour Hotel opening in the Brisbane inner-city suburb of New Farm in early 2010 and Spicers Canopy, a luxury safari lodge campsite on Spicers Peak Station on Queensland’s Scenic Rim.
