Flight delays as Sabre suffers another outage

Wednesday, 30 Apr, 2019 0

US airlines suffered a systemwide ticketing failure yesterday, leaving some passengers unable to book tickets or check in online or at airport kiosks.

Airlines affected included American Airlines, Alaska Air, JetBlue and Canada’s WestJet.

However, American said the issue was quickly resolved yesterday afternoon and it had no ‘major’ impact on flights.

It is understood that fewer than 10% of American Airlines flights were delayed as a result of the need to manually print boarding passes for customers who weren’t able to access boarding passes downloaded onto the airline’s mobile app.

The cause of the ticketing outages have yet to be confirmed, but reservations system provider Sabre apologized for the disruption. "No downtime is acceptable," the company said.

In March a similar temporary systemwide glitch to the Sabre servers caused delays  for US airlines.
