Florida on escaped tiger alert
The US state of Florida has been on alert after a tiger escaped from the home of an actor.
According to the BBC News website, six-year-old Bobo, a Bengal-Siberian mixed tiger, escaped from a pound on the property of Steve Sipek, who played Tarzan in 1696 and 1972 under the name Steve Hawkes.
The 600-pound beast was reportedly spotted several times by authorities, but marksmen with tranquilliser guns were unable to get close enough to shoot it.
Residents were reportedly offered armed escorts away from the area, near the town of Loxahatchee, near Miami, while one resident is reported to have turned up to help the search party along with a screaming pig to use as bait.
The adventure came to an end when the tiger, which had been “de-clawed” was shot by a ranger. Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald website states that Bobo lunged at one of two rangers, who shot it in self-defence.
Mr Sipek, who is said to be distraught, still reportedly has another tiger, two lions, a black leopard and a cougar on his property.
