Florida seeks public comments before reopening for business
With tourism businesses desperate to get back to business as usual, Florida’s State Task Force is seeking public comment regarding restarting the tourism-dominated economy.
The task force was set up by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to put a strategy in place for a reopening but won’t move ahead before feedback from Florida residents.
It launched an online public comment submission form seeking views from the public which will be a ‘critical component of the Task Force’s final report to Governor Ron DeSantis.’
"All interested Floridians are encouraged to submit their ideas regarding the safe re-opening of Florida’s economy," a statement said.
It wants comments about the impacts on tourism, schools, retail, sports and events and what restrictions can be lifted safely while protecting the public.
The task force wants to get the right balance between resuming business and keeping people safe from infection.
A statewide stay-at-home order runs until May 8.
Florida has reported more than 30,000 cases of Covid-19, leading to more than 1,000 deaths.
The task force includes representatives from major employers in the Florida tourism industry including Disney and Universal.
