Florida welcomes Beckham’s plans for Miami football team
Florida’s tourism chiefs have welcomed news that David Beckham is looking to invest in a Miami football team.
Beckham is reportedly planning to set up a franchise Major League Soccer team in the south Florida city resort.
"We are very excited about the possibility of having David Beckham invest in this football franchise," said Colin Brodie, Visit Florida UK & Ireland director.
"We feel that such a worldwide iconic brand associated with our vibrant state will help to boost visitors to Florida."
Earlier this year it was rumoured that the football icon and his wife Victoria were in the market to buy the Versace mansion in the South Beach area of Miami.
But it has since been confirmed that the new owners, VM South Beach LLC, whose principals include the Nakash family of New York who control Jordache Enterprises, plan to turn it into a hotel.
