Flybe turnaround continues
Flybe’s turnaround continues with a positive first quarter announced today.
Passenger numbers rose by 9.8% to 2.1 million with capacity up by 12.3% to 2.8 million seats in the three months to June 30.
Passenger revenue grew 11.6% growth to £147.7 million.
The airline said a 0.7% improvement in passenger yield to £70.33, a 1.7% dip in load factor to 74.1% and a 1.6% fall in revenue per seat to £52.12 was ‘encouraging given capacity growth’.
“As we enter the next phase of our transformation, Flybe has again delivered revenue and passenger growth in the quarter, demonstrating the strength of our core business," said chief executive Saad Hammad.
"We carried significantly more customers than the same time last year and maintained our industry-leading punctuality levels."
Current trading, as of July 17, is also positive thanks to 30 new routes, including nine from Cardiff and nine from Bournemouth.
These are helping to bring a 16% increase in capacity and an 11% rise in passenger revenue in the current quarter.
Hammad said Flybe remains focused on tackling the surplus E195 aircraft and is ‘actively pursuing a range of solutions’.
