Fog disrupts flights from London airports
Fog across parts of southern England is causing delays and cancellations at London airports today (Thursday).
British Airways issued a warning to passengers this morning, saying: "For safety reasons Air Traffic Control has to allow greater space between landing aircraft in fog or during periods of low visibility, and this will mean a reduced number of aircraft being allowed to land each hour.
"We are sorry for the difficulties caused by the poor weather and will do all we can to minimise the effect it has on our operations."
Heathrow Airport advised passengers to check the status of their flight due to the foggy conditions.
London City reported delays, cancellations and diversions and said although the fog is now now lifting, problems were expected throughout the morning.
Late last night some flights were diverted from London Gatwick due to the bad weather and also because of routine maintenance on the runway. But a spokesman said flights were running on time today.
London Stansted reported only minor delays to arrivals and departures due to ATC operating low visibility procedures, but said this measure has now been lifted and flights are operating as normal.
Meanwhile, easyJet is warning passengers of possible disruption Friday and Saturday as Storm Barbara hits the north of England and Scotland.
