Former airline official appears in Bali court
DENPASAR – Reports from Bali indicate that an Indonesian prosecutor is unlikely to pursue drug-dealing charges against former airline executive, Barry Hess. (TravelMole, October 25).
The former Melbourne-based general manager of the defunct Bali Paradise International airline is standing trial in Bali’s Denpasar District Court after police allegedly discovered a quantity of hashish and marijuana in his Kuta home.
Prosecutors last week upgraded their charges against the one-time Ansett manager to include trafficking, which carries the death penalty.
But prosecutor Ni Gusti Ayu Sasmita told AAP after Wednesday’s court hearing that there was no evidence Hess was distributing drugs.
Key prosecution witnesses told the hearing that Hess showed no sign of being a distributor of drugs.
According to AAP, Hess, 50, told the court he was seeking treatment for his drug addiction.
