Former HKTB chief face legal stoush
HONG KONG – Former Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) executive director Clara Chong could face legal action in a wrangle over her “unreasonable†conditions for repaying the amount she owes the tourism board, the South China Morning Post reports Chong has been asked by HKTB to return HK$140,000 (US$18,000) she allegedly owes in medical insurance benefits.
HKTB chair, James Tien, was quoted as saying that Chong “did not take consideration of the agreements suggested by our lawyers†and, as such, HKTB may take legal action against her
Chong’s contract terms allowed insurance premiums with a cap of HK$37,000. However, between September 2004 and September 21, 2006, the executive medical plan for her and her family amounted to HK$177,404.
According to reports in Hong Kong the medical plan was not approved by the finance secretary contrary to what was stipulated in Chong’s terms of employment
Chong, who joined HKTB on March 2001, did not seek a contract renewal when it expired in March 2007
