A huge fire at a Manila hotel has killed at least four people and another 23 people were taken to hospital.

It took fire crews almost an entire days to bring the blaze at the Waterfront Manila Pavilion under control.

Many staff and guests were trapped and made their way to the rooftop where they were rescued by a helicopter.

Senior fire officer Marlon Banaag said the cause is still being investigated but is thought to have started in the casino or an adjacent area under construction.

Two casino workers are reported missing, Manila police district spokesman Erwin Margarejo said.

Three of the confirmed dead were all hotel employees.

Manila Disaster Risk and Reduction Management named them as Billy de Castro, Jun Evangelista, and Marilyn Umadto.
