Four injured after collapse of old Newark hangar
Four airport workers were admitted to hospital with injuries after an old aircraft hangar suddenly collapsed at Newark Liberty airport.
The four workers were part of a team of nine inside prepping the hangar for a planned demolition when it came apart.
The 90,000 square-foot Hangar 14 was owned by United Airlines but had not been used for about 10 years.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, said Joe Pentangelo, a Port Authority spokesman.
It was an eventful few hours on Wednesday at the airport with a man arrested later in the day for trespass.
A 30-year-old man who was described as ‘intoxicated’ flew in from Hartford, Conneticut, missed a connection to Florida and was apprehended trying to enter an empty jet parked on the tarmac.
A security sweep of the aircraft and immediate area was made ‘as a precaution’ but nothing suspicious was found, an airport spokesman said.
