Frontier Airlines adds 20 new routes
Frontier Airlines in swooping in to take advantage of cash-strapped Spirit Airlines’ struggles.
It just announced a big expansion of 20 new routes to its network.
It has introductory fares from $29 to $89.
Some of the ultra-low-cost flights are include Baltimore to Houston, New Orleans, Fort Lauderdale, and Cancun, Mexico.
Flights from BWI to Fort Lauderdale and Houston begin Nov. 20, followed by Cancun flights on Nov. 22, and New Orleans in early 2026.
“Frontier is not just about delivering low fares – we’ve made major enhancements, from product upgrades to investments in technology and service,” said Frontier CEO Barry Biffle.
The expansion comes as Spirit Airlines cuts back and warned it may not survive long without a cash injection soon.
“We see a clear path to being the number one low-fare carrier in the top 20 US metros,” Biffle added.
Frontier had twice offered to merge with Spirit Airlines but it instead decided to go with JetBlue.
However the planned JetBlue-Spirit merger was ultimately blocked by the Justice Department.
