Frontier-Spirit Airlines merger talks back on
Frontier Airlines is back yet again as a potential suitor of Spirit Airlines.
Bloomberg reports Frontier and Spirit are again in talks for a merger according to unnamed sources.
Sources suggest a deal could be announced this month, while discussions are still ongoing.
Frontier has been in serious talks with Spirit at least twice before.
This includes the initial merger talks three years ago but Spirit shareholders eventually rejected this in favor of a competing JetBlue bid.
The JetBlue deal was eventually blocked due to competition concerns.
Just last week Spirit said a merger deal – a ‘strategic transaction’ – was still a possibility as it works through its bankruptcy restructuring.
Meanwhile, Frontier CEO Barry Biffle has been replaced in the top job by the airline’s President James Dempsey who is serving as interim CEO.
