Frontier to airlift remaining stranded passengers from Mexico today
Budget carrier Frontier Airlines is laying on extra flights out of Mexico today to airlift remaining stranded passengers due to a two-day ‘radio communications outage.’
The airline said there was a problem at a company that provides air to ground communication in Mexico, forcing several cancellations Monday and Tuesday.
However FAA sources and the Mexican Consulate were unaware of any outage and other airlines were flying in and out of the country as normal, according to a report at 9News Colorado.
The outage affected six flights to and from Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas throughout Monday and Tuesday, the airline said.
"Due to a widespread radio outage by a vendor utilized by Frontier for air to ground communication within Mexico, Frontier has been unable to operate our scheduled flights to and from Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas," a Frontier statement said.
"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our customer’s patience as the Frontier team works expeditiously to make arrangements for all impacted customers. We take this matter very seriously and senior management is actively engaged in the situation."
Stranded passengers complained of a lack of information and general confusion since the first flights were grounded.
Frontier had said no additional expenses would be reimbursed as it claimed the outage was beyond its control.
