Chris Froome, winner of this year’s Tour de France, is heading to Colorado this month to take part in this year’s USA Pro Cycling Challenge, as part of Team Sky.

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge, a professional road cycling stage race through the Colorado Rockies, is back for its third year.

The race starts in Aspen on August 19 and ends in Denver on August 25, travelling through eight host cities across Colorado.

For seven consecutive days, the world’s top athletes race higher altitudes than they’ve ever had to endure before and cycling nearly 600 miles during the race.

Froome heads a strong Team Sky line-up that includes his Tour de France team mates Peter Kennaugh, Richie Porte and Kanstantsin Siutsou plus American riders Ian Boswell, Joe Dombrowski and Danny Pate.

Josh Edmondson rounds out a formidable eight-man squad, as Team Sky make their debut in the race that features 16 of the world’s top professional cycling teams from eight countries.

The race combines climbing, sprints and a time trial and was won in 2012 by RadioShack Leopard Trek.

Host cities in 2013 will be Aspen, Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs, Beaver Creek, Vail, Loveland, Fort Collins and Denver.
