FTO Signs Historic Majorcan Sustainable Tourism Agreement
The Mayor of Calvià , Carlos Delgado, and the Director General of the Federation of British Tour Operators (FTO), Andrew Cooper, on 20th October signed an agreement to promote the sustainable tourism Travelife system to Calvia local tourism establishments, Calvia is the municipality which houses major Majorcan tourism destinations such as Magaluf and Palma Nova.
Both the Calvià Town Hall and the Federation of British Tour Operators aim to participate in the sustainable development of tourism of both Calvià and the Balearics, to improve its image in the eyes of the tourism source markets.
The FTO intends to introduce the Travelife Environmental Quality System to all tourist establishments of the municipality who wish to join. FTO is offering an assessment to any type of accommodation requesting this, then according to the results will award one of three types of classifications: the Travelife Gold, Silver or Bronze Award. The establishments obtaining this award will then be included in all brochures and sales outlets used by the tour operators.
