Fuel spill threatens Galapagos Islands
A diesel fuel spill could threaten the sensitive ecology of Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands. A dive boat carrying dozens of barrels of diesel fuel sank according to Ecuador’s Environment Ministry and state-run oil company Petroecuador.
There left a ‘superficial’ slick, but the extent of environmental damage is unclear. The sunken Albatroz boat was used for scuba-diving excursions. All four crew were safe.
National park officials suspended tourism activities around the area.
