Galveston Island, Texas, named host city for Go West Summit 2027
Galveston Island has been selected as the official host city for the Go West Summit in 2027, marking a significant milestone for the region’s tourism industry and local economy.
The annual event, which brings travel industry leaders, will take place Feb. 27 – March 3 and is expected to bring over 500 attendees, representing 27 U.S. states, Canadian provinces and 31 countries.
Galveston Island, Texas is a resilient historic beach town located 50 miles south of Houston. The birthplace of Juneteenth and home to the second largest immigration port into the U.S. in the 1880s, today Galveston Island is a major tourism destination for Texas and beyond.
In 2025, the destination recorded 3.1 million cruise passengers and 1.4 million travelers arriving by air. Close to 9 million visitors come every year generating 5.25 million lodging demand.
The Go West Summit is organized by the International Tourism Marketing, Inc (ITM), an inbound, international tourism destination marketing organization representing various public and private sector tourism associations and companies. The summit is a business-to-business tourism event with attendees, destination representatives and travel operators, where an estimated 8,700 appointments were conducted in 2026.
“Go West matches international businesses with their perfect destination, and next year, they will be in Galveston experiencing all the island has to offer. That is a huge win for Galveston,” Visit Galveston Executive Director Tony Lyle said. “Bringing Go West to the island allows us to highlight everything that makes Galveston special—from our rich history and vibrant culture to our beaches and hospitality industry—while creating lasting benefits for our community.”
The 2027 Go West Summit is expected to deliver strong economic benefits to Galveston Island, including increased occupancy for hotels and short-term rentals, higher foot traffic for local businesses, and expanded opportunities for workforce engagement. Restaurants, retail shops, tour operators, and cultural institutions are all poised to benefit from the influx of visitors.
“Go West brings an international audience of decision-makers to Galveston. We look forward to hosting buyers and travel planners who influence where people travel and how destinations are positioned in the global marketplace,” Lyle said. “When they leave this island, we want them to walk away with Galveston in their itineraries and in their conversations for years to come. An event like this can put us on maps we haven’t been on before.”
“Galveston is exactly the kind of destination our attendees come to discover,” said Mary Motsenbocker, President of Go West Summit. “Our buyers and travel planners can conduct up to 73 individual appointments over the course of the event, and we have one buyer for every 1.5 suppliers, which is an incredible ratio for an event like this. Those conversations translate directly into bookings and itineraries. Galveston has the product, the history and the hospitality to make a real impression. We expect this to be a strong host city partnership.“
