Gatwick apologises for delays at security
Gatwick Airport has apologised to passengers caught up in security delays on Sunday.
Long queues formed, with people taking to social media to complain about the lack of social distancing and not enough staff.
One Twitter user complained of ‘no direction, no information, no staff to be seen’, another described the situation as ‘no management, complete chaos’, while another said it took them over an hour to get through security.
"I accept the need to cut costs but this is unacceptable," another passenger tweeted.
Gatwick apologised for the delays and thanked passengers for their patience.
Gatwick issued a statement to TravelMole, saying: "On Sunday 4 October, some passengers did unfortunately experience a delay getting through security in the afternoon for which we apologise and appreciated the patience of everyone impacted.
"We responded swiftly to bring in additional security staff to help reduce waiting times and manage social distancing. We carried out an internal review and are confident that the situation has been resolved and we can confirm we are adequately staffed.
"The consultation process regarding possible redundancies associated with our restructuring is still ongoing."
