Gatwick brings back Olympics volunteers to help cope with Christmas rush

London Gatwick will be bringing back volunteers who worked during the Olympics to help with the Christmas holiday rush.

With around 1.5 million people due to travel through the airport between 17 December and 2 January, a small team of London Ambassadors will be on hand to give help and advice.

They will be joined by Santa and his reindeers and carol singers to get travellers in the festive spirit.

The airport says the busiest departure day will be Sunday 23 December, with around 56,000 passengers flying off.

"Staff and extra helpers, including the London Ambassadors who made such a great impression during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be on hand to assist at every stage to ensure our passengers enjoy a great experience at Gatwick with some fun, festive entertainment along the way," said Louisa Craven, Gatwick terminal operations.
