Gatwick Express extends to Brighton
The Gatwick Express fast service from London will be extended to Brighton before Christmas.
Six services a day during weekdays will operate in the morning and evening peaks from December 15 between Victoria and Brighton.
Trains will still run non-stop between Gatwick and London, maintaining the existing 30 minute journey time and providing extra seats from the south coast.
The total travel time between Brighton and London is scheduled to be one hour and ten minutes.
The Gatwick Express Brighton link will complement existing Southern services running to and from the capital. Six Gatwick Express trains will replace three current Southern services from Brighton.
The trains will stop at some stations between Brighton and Haywards Heath before calling at Gatwick but these will differ depending on the times of the services, according to the revised timetable.
But Gatwick Express trains from Brighton will not stop at East Croydon or Clapham Junction.
Season tickets from Brighton to London will be valid on the extended Gatwick Express service.
Chris Burchell, managing director of Southern and Gatwick Express, said: “Linking our second largest airport to one of our most cosmopolitan seaside towns will provide an enhanced rail service to and from the airport for incoming tourists and local residents.â€
