German chancellor injured in skiing accident
German chancellor Angela Merkel has been injured in a skiing accident.
Her spokesman said she had injured her pelvis in a cross-country skiing trip and will have to be mostly bound to bed for the next three weeks.
Merkel had spent the day before Christmas Eve on the slopes in the Swiss resort of St Moritz, where she was seen cross-country skiing with two bodyguards.
The 59-year-old is a frequent visitor to the Alps.
Her accident comes a week after Formula 1 star Michael Schumacher was critically injured while skiing in the French resort of Meribel.
He remains in a critical but stable condition.
