German tourist killed in Phuket speedboat accident
A Thai boat driver could face a negligent homicide charge after a German tourist died after being struck by a boat propeller.
The accident happened at Kamala Beach, Phuket where 63-year-old Helmut Prock was swimming as the boat pulled up to the beach.
He suffered deep cuts and died in hospital a short time later.
Major Ekkachai Siri of the Phuket Tourist Police said the speedboat was used for towing parasailers at the beach.
Police said Prock was swimming outside of the designated swimming area although the boat driver could still face charges.
The boat captain said Prock was unsighted and underwater when he was hit by the outboard motor.
