Germany bounces back
The number of Australians visiting Germany has rebounded following what is described as ‘a modest downturn’ in 2009.
Overnights stays rose by 14% in December 2009, 18.4% in January 2010 and 16.2% in February 2010
Commenting on the result, Horst Lommatzch German National Tourist Board’s Director for Asia told an industry seminar in Sydney: “In 2009 the number of Australians visiting Germany fell by only 4.9%. Other markets experienced much more significant losses, with Canada down 10.1%, the UK at -12.4% and Japan -15.1%”
Virginia Haddon, the NTO’s Sales and Marketing representative in Australia add: “The Oberammergau Passion Play and numerous cultural events marking the Ruhr region’s year as European Capital of Culture are strong attractions. Germany is also benefiting from the strong growth in European river cruising”
