Get this: Great Keppell goes on sale
Great Keppell Island, described as the world’s premier eco-luxury island resort, is looking for a new owner.
The World Heritage Great Barrier Reef property, which captured imaginations in the 1980s thanks to the "Get Wrecked" on Great Keppel advertising campaign, is set for a $2 billion makeover.
Owners Tower Holdings has released plans to build a 250-room beachfront hotel, 700 luxury villas and 300 apartments, plus a 250-berth marina with yacht and ferry terminal.
A Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course and a retail precinct are also part of the sale.
The island also has a commercial airstrip providing direct access to Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns, and includes zoning approval for a casino.
Selling agents are JLL Hotel and Hospitality Group Australia, who expect strong interest from Asian buyers.
Expressions of interest close on June 26.
