Getting married? Head to Butlins

Friday, 14 Feb, 2006 0

It’s renowned for seeking out the knobbliest knees and championing the hairiest chest but Butlins is breaking new ground – by moving into the weddings market.

The holiday camp operator is launching three-day packages at its three parks in Minehead, Bognor and Skegness with traditional white weddings and themed ceremonies.

Butlins head of conference and events Mary Griffiths said it follows increasing demand from guests.

“Last year hundreds of guests were asking to tie the knot at Butlins,” she said. “Often couples who had met here or guests who had happy memories from family holidays.

“The resorts are ideal as people often want to continue the celebration of their wedding for more than just the traditional half day and for the younger wedding guests, entertaining the kids at Butlins is what we’re famous for.”

The packages include an ‘I’m getting married in the morning’ party followed by a ‘recovery party’ on day three.

Among the packages available is a Viva Las Vegas wedding complete with Elvis impersonator.
