Girl, 9, killed in ski accident
Austria: British girl was on the last day of a family holiday
A British girl of nine has been killed on her first skiing holiday after she hit a ski lift on the nursery slopes.
Gina Coy, of Bilton, Warwickshire, was on holiday with her mother, father and brother in the Austrian resort of Bayrischzell when the accident happened, and had been due to fly home the following day.
The girl’s father Uli, German born and a former ski instructor, said it was a freak accident and that he did not know how it happened.
He said: “We decided to go for one more run down the slope –we had already skied it twice that day with no problems. I had been skiing with my son Thomas in front of me and Gina behind. Somehow in a distance of 150 yards she had manage to overtake us. There was some commotion and Gina had disappeared when I looked round.”
