Go Green in London
Are you one of over 26 million tourists who visit London every year? London Tourism asks visitors to help in the fight against climate change by:
* considering low carbon transport options such as boat or rail
* at hotels, turning down heat and air-conditioning, turning off lights and indicating that linens need not be changed daily.
* off-setting flights to London by donating to organizations such as Climate Care and the Carbon Neutral Company
The Visit London Web site has a “green” section, offering free information and suggestions, such as the Organic London Guide; a directory of hotels accredited under the Green Tourism program; organic restaurants; cheap, fun and green ways to get around the city, and more. Said to be the best urban site in Europe to watch wildlife, the London Wetland Centre is a great place to take a walk and see gorgeous waterfowl(www.wwt.org.uk/centre/119/london.html).
The Duke of Cambridge is the world’s first certified organic pub, and it generates its own power and built its conservatory entirely of reclaimed materials(www.dukeorganic.co.uk).
