Goa prices Goan down
India: Famous region has the best-value holidays in the world, says survey
The Indian region of Goa represents the best value in the world for holidaymakers, according to a report by Lunn Poly.
The research compared the cost of living in 11 destinations around the world – and among long-haul destinations Goa was the cheapest by a fair distance. The survey showed that a beer, which would cost more than £2.30 in Barbados, would be just 20p in Goa. A CD in Goa costs around 50p compared to £15 in the Caribbean resort, while a mineral water costs 15p in Goa – less than a tenth of what it would cost in Barbados, the most expensive destination of the 11 surveyed.
Among short-haul destinations, Bulgaria was the cheapest with prices for meals out around one third of those in Majorca. Corfu has the cheapest beer in Europe while southern Spain has the cheapest wine.
John McEwan, retail director of Lunn Poly, told the online news provider Ananova: “Being aware of the cost of living on holiday helps travellers make an informed decision about which resort suits their holiday habits. Bulgaria is quite new to the mainstream British holiday market, with more holiday companies now including it in their brochures, but it is such good value it is likely to do well.”
