Gold Coast Tourism Strategy awarded industry leader accolade
The Gold Coast Tourism Five Year Plan which is partnered by Gold Coast City Council has been recognised as Australia’s leading tourism model winning Australia’s Industry Leadership and Best Practice Award at the prestigious TTF Corporate Leadership Awards in Sydney last night.
Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF) Australia is the nation’s most influential industry body for the tourism, transport and infrastructure sectors, representing 200 of the country’s most prestigious corporations and associations.
The TTF Corporate Leadership Awards recognise excellence on a national and international level.
GCT’s Five Year Plan was tonight awarded for its vision, unity and achievement in securing a long term financial commitment from GCCC for funding, the most significant investment by any regional council in Australia.
TTF Managing Director, Christopher Brown said the award was due celebration of Australia’s most innovative tourism organisation strategy.
“Gold Coast Tourism has delivered a pioneering plan to develop the tourism industry, increase visitation and grow yield for their region.”
“To ensure the successful execution of that plan, Gold Coast City Council has led the way with a commitment and funding model which is without doubt the nation’s best practise and an example for all to follow,” he said.
“Tonight, Australia stood up and applauded the Gold Coast partnership for its vision and delivery; we hope others will soon follow the Gold Coast’s lead.”
GCT CEO Pavan Bhatia said he was pleased the vision, dedication and big decisions of industry and government on the Gold Coast were producing results.
“The TTF Industry Leadership and Best Practice Award is a fantastic way to finish a very successful year,” he said.
“We have increased visitation by 195,000 and visitor expenditure by around $167 million in the past 12 months.”
“We have delivered two new assets for the Gold Coast, VeryGC Global Business Insights and GCBazaar, each were finalists in national and international awards.”
“The GCT Five Year Plan has been instrumental in securing increased domestic and international air access to our region, and now our partnership with the City has been awarded the highest national tribute.”
