Government travel expenses – simple mistakes
Most business travellers know that keeping a record of expenses and submitting a claim form for out of pocket expenses are an essential part of the trip. Once again, however, it apprears that public servants need to be reminded.
In the Northern Territory, the expense scheme for Government Ministers and the Opposition Leader has been overhauled following an independent audit that showed one third of claims to be incorrect.
Auditor-General Frank McGuiness said the Ministers and Opposition Leader were “innocent of any suggestion of misconduct” and the mistakes had been administrative errors.
The travel expenses documents, the original full report by Auditor-General Frank McGuiness and the 18-month independent audit were made public yesterday.
