Govt required to respond to sales manager as petition exceeds 10,000 names

A sales manager’s petition calling for the government to rescue the travel industry has passed 10,000 signatures.

The crusade has been launched by Anthony Horrobin, sales manager at Uncover the World, and calls on chancellor Rishi Sunak to bail out the industry when the furlough scheme ends in October.

Any petition attracting 10,000 signatures requires the government to respond.

Should it reach 100,000, it will be considered for debate in Parliament.

Horrobin called on the industry to back the petition ‘given the fact that many of us are still unable to operate to most destinations and customer confidence in travel appears to be at an all time low’.

"With the continued threat of quarantine restrictions and FCO advice changing with little notice, unfortunately our industry appears to be one of the worst affected and most likely will take longer to recover than many other sectors," he said.

"With the furlough scheme beginning to wrap up and come to an end next month, I wanted to try and get the government to hear some industry voices."

The petition can be signed here
