Great Southern Railway extends $99 Melbourne – Adelaide fare
Great Southern Railway has announced that is has extended its popular $99 return fare for travel between Melbourne and Adelaide and vice versa on The ‘new look’ Overland, with the introductory $99 return fare extended for bookings up to 15 September 2007, for travel up to 31 December 2007.
The inaugural refurbished The Overland service from Adelaide commenced on 7 May 2007 and since then the number of guest bookings in comparison to last year has increased by a staggering 155%.
“We expected travellers to take advantage of the new look service and special $99 return fare but the bookings have been well ahead of expectations,” said Great Southern Railway Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tony Braxton-Smith.
“The response has driven overall level of enquiries for all seat types” “There are now a limited number of seats for this fantastic $99 return fare for the remainder of the year – subject to availability.” “Travellers are encouraged to book early to avoid missing out on this exclusive offer,” he added.
Mr Braxton-Smith has attributed The Overland’s popularity to the new service enhancements which has increased the level of guests comfort,adding, “The $99 return Red Service fare is great value.” “Guests travelling aboard the daylight service are able to enjoy the scenery while relaxing and socialising in the new comfy reclining seats.” “The new Café 828 and enhanced menu has also proved extremely popular,” said Mr Braxton-Smith.
The Overland departs Adelaide passing through Murray Bridge, Bordertown, Nhill, Dimboola, Horsham, Ararat and Geelong along the way every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.25 am arriving in Melbourne at 6.40 pm.
The return service departs Melbourne every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7.35 am arriving in Adelaide at 6.10 pm on Tuesday and Saturday and 7.15 pm on Thursdays.
