Greek air traffic controllers stop strike at 11th hour
Flights into Greece were saved from disruption today after the country’s air traffic controllers made a last minute decision not to strike. As Greek sea and rail travel ground to a halt today, public sector workers staged another walk out in protest at deep government cuts.
Thousands of protestors are thronging the streets of Athens to make clear their unhappiness about the austerity package that Greek lawmakers have introduced in a bid to secure European bail out funds for the country’s ailing economy.
This is the third public sector strike staged to protest about the cuts.
Easyjet earlier said it expected “significant disruption†to flights to Greece but air traffic controllers said their last minute change of heart was due to a reluctance to disrupt tourism as peak season approaches.
