Greek authorities act over carbon monoxide deaths
Two Thomas Cook staff face a trial related to the death of two children from carbon monoxide poisoning while staying in a holiday apartment in Corfu.
Charges relating to the deaths of six year old Robert Shepherd and his seven year old sister Christianne in October 2006 have been brought by authorities on the island.
The two employees of the operator are charged along with the management of the Louis Coreyra Beach hotels and maintenance contractors.
Corfu police originally charged six people with manslaughter and causing bodily harm by negligence.
A Thomas Cook spokeswoman was quoted as saying: “There has been an announcement by the Greek judicial council that charges will be brought against a number of individuals, including Louis Group hotel management and external maintenance contractors.
“Thomas Cook is shocked and deeply concerned to have been informed that two individuals have also been named. Thomas Cook continues to stand behind the two people concerned and believes they will be fully vindicated.â€
