Greek government attempts to calm tourists’ fears
Greece is trying to reassure tourists that their holidays will not be affected by the financial crisis gripping the country.
Τhe Ministry for Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping and Tourism issued a statement on Monday stressing that the €60 a day cap introduced on ATM cash withdrawals do not apply to those with foreign credit or debit cards.
"Moreover, the Ministry does not anticipate any inconvenience in visitors’ every day holiday experiences, neither in the islands nor in mainland Greece, as there are adequate fuel supplies, products and services," it said.
"Greece continues to offer the highest quality of tourism services to its visitors, who have ranked Greece as one of the best holiday destinations worldwide."
In a statement issued via ABTA, the deputy minister for tourism Elena Kountoura said visitors currently in Greece, as well as people planning to visit Greece, will not be affected by the latest developments. She said they can continue to enjoy their holiday in Greece ‘without any problems whatsoever’.
