Groundbreaking green tourism research to be unveiled at World Green Tourism
Survey to inform future strategy
A survey of over 3,400 respondents across the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom carried out by YouGovSiraj, the leading full service research company, is set to be unveiled at World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi.
The survey asked respondents about perceptions on the green tourism industry, including the impact destinations’ green credentials have when making a holiday decision, the value they place on a commitment to sustainable tourism and what the key imperatives are from a consumer perspective.
It also asked the respondents what their understanding of the definition of green tourism is, and which sustainable tourism activities they have participated in. The key issue of whose responsibility it is for implementing and promoting green initiatives was also addressed in the survey.
“This survey will help shape the debates and discussions between the industry experts attending World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi,” said Rick Theobald, Event Director, Streamline Marketing Group (SMG), which is organising the event.
He continued, “The results will clearly impact the discussions over what green tourism actually encompasses, as well as providing vital information for governments and hotel operators on the value placed by consumers on sustainable practices, which will inform future strategies for the public and private sectors.”
World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi, being held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), is taking place from November 22 to 24 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event, which is co-hosted by the Environmental Agency Abu Dhabi – will boast over 50 speakers including international sustainability pioneers, tourism ministers and heads of tourism bodies and UN representatives while the exhibition will feature national arenas from Japan, Thailand, Germany and the UK.
World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi, a first-of-its-kind event for the Arabian Gulf, is the debut meetings industry initiative to emerge from ADTA’s Advantage Abu Dhabi incentive programme which catalyses and seeds new business tourism and meetings concepts. The event reflects the core values of the Abu Dhabi Government’s 2030 plan which clearly identifies tourism as a key economic diversification driver and environmental sustainability as an underlying fundamental of the emirate.
The event is a forum for key industry leaders and associations to discuss the environmental challenges facing the tourism industry, highlighting ‘green’ initiatives, technologies and solutions currently being integrated into mainstream industry practices.
