GTMC issues advice in wake of terror alert
It is “imperative” that corporate travel managers know where their business travellers at a time of heightened security measures against terrorism, according to the Guild of Travel management Companies
The guild, issuing advice to members, said companies will be looking at tightening security measures and restricting unnecessary business travel, particularly by air.
“At such times as these, it is imperative that corporate travel managers know where their colleagues are at any moment – and working in partnership with a TMC can be one of the best ways to achieve this aim,” the guild said.
“If they haven’t already, the GTMC encourages its members to construct a corporate disaster recovery plan with their clients so as to be prepared in case of an emergency. The impending corporate manslaughter bill may make this an even more crucial tool.”
According to the GMTC, advice should include:
- Appointing someone to monitor the news agenda – what’s happening across the country affected, and which clients might be involved
- Communicate any news relating to terrorism activity to clients on a regular basis, explaining how it might effect them
- Advise on any latest air travel restrictions or change to security regulations
- Consider and recommend alternative forms of travel where practicable and appropriate
- Consult hotel contacts in case you need to block book due to transport limitations (eg, flight cancellations at Heathrow, or train cancellations into and out of major cities)
