Guests leave Covid-hit cruise ship in Lisbon
Almost 3,000 passengers were finally disembarked from a Covid-hit cruise ship in Lisbon.
Guests exited the AIDAnova at Lisbon cruise port after being stuck on the ship for several days.
The cruise liner had arrived in Lisbon on December 29.
More positive cases were detected on Sunday, taking the number to 68.
Portuguese health authorities had given approval for the ship to leave on December 31 but AIDA chose to stay at the port.
The ship was originally heading to Madeira for New Year’s Eve but the cruise was effectively cut short after the Covid-19 positive cases.
AIDA Cruises said all infected displayed mild symptoms or were asymptomatic.
All crew and adult guests were fully vaccinated and were required to show a negative antigen test before embarkation.
Last week the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned Americans to avoid cruise ships even if fully vaccinated.
