Guide to getting your kit off around the world
Anyone who is fond of sunbathing in the nude – or travel professionals keen to promote naturism – should get a copy of Bare Beaches, “the world guide to bathing naked”.
Published by Lifestyle Press and dedicated to “anyone who was born naked”, the glossy, full-colour guide lists beaches, resorts and other areas where naturism is accepted, along with many pictures of “bare beaches” around the world.
The guide freely admits to containing a lot of “bare bottom” pictures, but the is emphasis is clearly on the destinations concerned, with specific information such as maps, directions, and descriptions of each beach or resort.
The guide covers Europe, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, the Americas, and South Africa, as well as a series of articles on naturism in general and, more specifically, lists of travel organisations promoting naturism.
The book reminds the reader that a “vast number” of people have “stepped out of their swimming costumes”, claiming that roughly 10 million Britons have been skinny-dipping and more than five million have sunbathed in the nude.
As the Bare Beaches promotional literature puts it: “Ever wanted to lie in the sun wearing nothing but your birthday suit? To swim naked in a warm sea? To drop all your stress and forget about all your worries? To get a brown bottom? If so, you’re in good company.”
