Major Chinese carrier Hainan Airlines will ring in the New Year with inaugural flights to Auckland from Shenzhen.
The route will operate three times a week between Shenzhen and Auckland on Airbus A330 jets.
The new route kicks off on December 31, 2016, arriving in New Zealand on the first day of 2017.
"This non-stop service will not only grow the number of visitors from southern China, it will also give Chinese travelers further connecting flight options to Auckland from other areas in China through the extensive Hainan Airlines’ network," said Auckland Airport general manager of aeronautical commercial, Norris Carter.
The airport predicts a tourism boost of NZ$102 million a year into the local economy due to the new route.
Sister carrier Tianjin Airlines also recently announced upcoming flights to Auckland starting in December from Tianjin via Chongqing.
