HAL cruise ship worker arrested for grand theft
A night auditor working on a Holland America cruise ship has been arrested and charged with 11 counts of grand theft after more than $10,000 went missing during three cruises out of Port Everglades.
Indonesian national Anthonius Novi Hartanto, 42, admitted the offences while working aboard the Holland America Noordam.
According to a report in the Sun Sentinel, Hartanto took the stolen cash off the ship when it was docked at the port and wired the money to his own bank account in Indonesia.
The offences took place between November 3 and November 13, at the end of each of the three cruises.
The 11 thefts totaling $10,220 ranged from $500 to $1,320 a time, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Hartanto made his first appearance in court yesterday and is being held on $55,000 bail.
