HAL ships collide in Vancouver
Two Holland America ships collided at the Port of Vancouver at the weekend causing damage to both vessels.
The MS Ousterdam was docking at Canada Place when it ran into the Neiuw Amsterdam.
No injuries were reported although both ships were damaged.
Several stateroom verandas at the rear of the Ousterdam were damaged and repair work has taken place.
Passenger Susan Carusca on the Neiuw Amsterdam described the collision as ‘an incredible jolt and loud scraping noise.’
"Some minor damage was caused to both ships. No injuries or pollution as a result and our cruise operations are continuing normally," said Danielle Jang of the Vancouver Port Authority.
Transport Canada was informed and is working with HAL in its investigation, Jang said.
The collision happened above the water line so both ships were able to continue with upcoming cruises.
From Vancouver, the Ousterdam is repositioning to San Diego ahead of a week-long Alaska cruise.
Passengers booked in the damaged staterooms will be accommodated in alternative cabins.
Neiuw Amsterdam also departed as scheduled from Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise.
