Hawaii arrivals at record high in August

Tuesday, 29 Sep, 2015 0
Visitor arrivals to Hawaii set a new record for August with more than 750,000, however overall tourism spending was flat.

Last month 755,863 arrived, up 2.9% on 2014 but visitor spending fell 0.5% to $1.3 billion.

Year to date, Hawaii arrivals are up 4.1% to 5.8 million visitors and 2015 visitor spending is up by 3.1%.

"While the growth in August was not as strong as in previous months, Hawaii’s visitor industry continues to exceed 2014 records in spending and arrivals," said Hawaii Tourism Authority CEO George Szigeti.

"Spending reached $10.3 billion for the first eight months of 2015 and contributed $1.1 billion in state tax revenue."

The HTA said the average visitor stays 8.78 days in the Aloha State and spends about $191 per day.

"In addition to pacing at record-breaking levels, air seats to the Hawaiian Islands are at an all-time high, boosting arrivals from most of our markets," Szigeti said, adding that the immediate future remains uncertain due to the unstable economic environment in Europe and especially Asia.
