Hawaii sees second shark attack in a week
A 16-year-old boy has suffered leg injuries after the second shark attack in a week in Hawaii.
The latest attack took place on Sunday near Hilo on Hawaii island, the largest of the eight islands that make up the archipelago.
The boy was airlifted to hospital.
Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources closed the waters along the Pohoiki coastline after the attack.
Hapuna Beach, on the island’s northwest shore, was also closed on Sunday after lifeguards spotted a shark.
Last week a 20-year-old German tourist snorkelling off Maui lost her right arm to a shark.
Her life was saved by a tourist from California who raced into the bloody water to pull her out, see previous story.
