Hawaii Tourism Authority appointing new CEO
After a global search lasting six months it looks like the Hawaii Tourism Authority has found a new permanent president and CEO.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports hotel industry leader George Szigeti has been tapped to take over at the HTA, replacing Ron Williams, former HTA’ˆboard chairman who was acting chief executive following the resignation of Mike McCartney in November.
Szigeti is president and CEO of the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association and is a former president of the Hawaii Food Industry Association.
He has also previously served as a board member of the Hawaii Restaurant Association and from 1997 to 2012 was CEO of beverage wholesaler and distributor Better Brands Ltd.
The report says a selection committee recommended Szigeti to the HTA board last week and his appointment is expected to be confirmed at the next board meeting.
