Hawaiian Airlines Covid-19 cluster grows
Dozens of Hawaiian Airlines flight attendants must self-quarantine after a growing cluster of Covid-19 cases was discovered among their ranks.
The number of flight attendants with the virus has steadily grown in the past few days to 14.
They were among 60 employees attending a FAA mandated training session.
All of them and the instructors are now self-isolating.
"Out of an abundance of caution, we have canceled our flight attendant training for the next two weeks to deep clean our facilities," a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson said.
"We are supporting our team members in their recovery, helping contact anyone who may have been at risk of exposure, and reinforcing our office protocols to keep our employees safe."
When it does resume in-person training sessions, face masks will be compulsory.
The Association of Flight Attendants called for the airline to make changes to its training while demanding standardized protocols across the industry.
"We need to make sure that every airline is instituting effective Covid-19 safety measures, and that we get safety measures instituted from the federal government to ensure one level of safety across the aviation system," a union spokesperson said.
